A New Tanya class By Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz “The greatest returns on your investments” Tanya Igeret Hatshuva Chapter 12 We learnt that a person has to be Happy all the time. Even if one sins? Yes as that you keep at a distance to humble you. More importantly as when you recall that you sinned that brings greater joy as Hashem is giving you an opportunity to settle all your wrong doings in this world at a fraction of the pain & suffering that you would have to endure in the world to come. In this chapter the Alter Rebbe explains why in this world it’s a fraction of the pain & suffering hence the huge joy from any challenges in your life. It’s a great favor for the sinner to be cleansed in this world. We don’t have the strength to do the appropriate fasts to avoid hell. The Ramban in his introduction to the book of Job states that Job suffering for 70 years does not compare to one hour of hell. Fire is one sixtieth of hell. Hashem created this world with Chesed so with me immediately minimal suffering we can avoid harsh judgments of the world to come. Parable. As the sun moves thousands of miles on high on earth it moves a handbreadth. On the positive side. When we bring a small sacrifice or do any mitzvah on this world it creates a huge elevation on high. As the Gemara explains in the verse והתקדישתם והייתם קדושים when we do our part in this world Hashem sanctifies us much more as the Berachot say אשר קדשנו במצוותיו when we do Mitzvot we draw down from the light of סובב The same applies to reward & punishment שכר מצוה מצוה when we do a mitzvah in this world we are receiving huge rewards in the world to come the same with punishment when we experience punishment in this world it’s saving us from huge punishment in the world to come so this is a reason to be extremely happy with any pain, challenge or suffering as we are paying a fraction of the price here.
