A New Tanya class By Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz “2 Levels of Love for G-D” Tanya Igeret Hakodesh Chapter 18 The Alter Rebbe begins with a verse in Songs of Songs מה יפית ומה נעמת אהבה בתענוגים the verse is saying how great is אהבה בתענוגים so there are 2 levels of Ahava & this level is so sweet & beautiful. Ahava בתענוגים is: A עונג נפלא, שמחה רבה ועצומה, שמחת הנפש, כלות הנפש, בטעמה כי טוב ה׳, ונעים נעימות עריבות להפליא, מעין עולם הבא ממש שנהנים וכו, This level is so high that not every one can reach it only שמחו צדיקים בה׳ it’s the level that the Zohar says כהנא ברעותה דלבה that they receive as a gift that a human can not attain we receive it as a gift after we reach the level of יראת ה׳ Regarding יראה that we need to work on based on your level of your soul once you reached a high level of Yirah this high level of Ahava comes as a gift. Lower level of Ahava is where the soul desires & wants to cleave to Hashem that is good for the soul & does not want to be disconnected or feel far away from Hashem. This level of love every one has at times it’s hidden even in wicked people it exists hence the reason for guilt & remorse. Because it’s hidden the Kelipot can attack & we can at times do inappropriate things. Our avoda is to rid the kelipah from us from our body, thought, speech & action than we bring out the hidden love to a revealed state first in meditation as our thought of Hashem will cause us to have fire love for Hashem than to use our speech & action for Hashem to study & do Mitzvot to cleave to Hashem. When This level of love is revealed & active its called צמאה נפשי לה when your yearning for the water but not enjoying it yet. This yearning for Hashem we pray to Hashem that this yearning should be exclusively for Hashem & no stranger should hi Jack this yearning. Even though we can not transform our heart to exclusively yearn for hashem however we can control our thoughts speech & action to be exclusively for Hashem & we can use our yearning for things that we need to have to survive like food & drink & make that a holy experience by doing it for Hashem as the verse in proverbs says בכל דרכיך דעהו.
