A New Tanya class By Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz “How can we receive everlasting Chesed from Hashem” Tanya Igeret Hakodesh Chapter 13 In psalms King David says מה רב טובך אשר צפנת ליראיך פעלת לחוסים בך נגד בני אדם the verse refers to the reward of keeping Mitzvot so on one hand it says צפנת it’s hidden in the other hand it says נגד בני אדם it’s revealed which is it? The Alter Rebbe teaches us there are 2 types of people in the way they serve G-D Chesed or Gevura based on the source of their Soul either Right or Left. A soul who is rooted in the Left will serve G-D with 1) Tzimzum: will do the minimum requirements 2) concealment: will serve G-D secretly. A soul who is rooted in the right will serve G-D with 1) Chesed: expansion, plentiful, in attitude. 2) actual service of Chesed with out limits both in Mitzvot & Torah Study. The Alter Rebbe says even though people are either right or left nevertheless every person has to have a blend of the other side as well as we see in reference to Bais Shammai & Bais Hillel that even though they had strong right or left positions they did take the opposite positions at times as well. This is called התכללות המדות. As we say with Avraham even though he was predominantly Chesed nevertheless he was willing to do the Akeida & that’s when Hashem said now I know that your G-D fearing. Everyone serves G-D with Right & Left the question is what the revealed & what is the concealed service. Avraham’s revealed service was Chesed & his concealed service was Gevura. Yitzchok’s revealed service was Gevurah & concealed service was Chesed. King David says the Chesed of the person where the Chesed is concealed nevertheless at times will break out with unlimited Chesed & the Chesed of the person where the Chesed is revealed as in some one that has Bitachon as Bitachon is from the right namely Chesed are both great amounts of Chesed so King David asks Hashem that Hashem should reciprocate with רב חסד from אריך אנפין as when רב חסד is flowing from Hashem in that level there can not be any Din that would effect the רב חסד flow.
