The ultimate fulfillment of דירה בתחתונים will take place when the Moshiach arrives & at the time of the resurrection of the dead. The definition of דירה בתחתונים is that the infinite G-D will be revealed in this material world. The revelation will be brought about by our Actions & Work in exile by elevating קליפת נוגה on the level of דומם, צומח , חי & מדבר thereby G-D will be revealed on all levels. We will elevate not only the animal soul that's in humans on a physical level we will also elevate our finer parts as speech & thought. When you pray or study or do a mitzvah the 365 negative & 248 positive you elevate all food that you consumed as well as the world up to the point that all will see G-Dliness אתה הראת לדעת... & when G-D will be revealed the 3 impure קליפות will disappear as they receive their energy from קליפת נוגה & that will all be elevated. Hence the power of Mitzvot to accomplish the goal of elevating the material world not necessarily be to have a spiritual high & this then is the definition of סוד גלות השכינה Hence the importance of the mitzvah of צדקה as you elevate that physical energy that it took to earn the money or the life force that the money could have bought you. Torah study has its unique power that it can elevate the internal garments of thought, speech as well as ones intellectual faculties even though it can not elevate the emotions as those are stronger than intellect in this regard. Hence the reason that we stop studying to do a mitzvah & that is only if & when there is no one else to do the mitzvah as the goal is transforming the world however the greater light comes from Torah study.
